Origins and inspiration

Yin and Yang are complementary concepts in Chinese philosophy. Yin yoga is considered the "yin" counterpart to more active and dynamic forms of yoga, which are considered "yang." The practice aims to balance these energies within the body. Yin yoga poses are designed to stimulate and open up the body's energy channels or meridians, as described in traditional Chinese medicine. This is believed to promote better flow of energy (qi or chi) in the body.

The main features of Yin Yoga include poses are typically held for a longer duration compared to other forms of yoga, often ranging from 1 to 5 minutes or more. The extended hold times allow for a deep release of tension in the muscles and connective tissues.

Yin yoga can offer several benefits, including increased flexibility, improved joint health, stress reduction, and enhanced relaxation. It is particularly popular among individuals seeking a meditative and contemplative practice or those looking to complement more active forms of yoga or physical training.

Thai Yoga massage often incorporates mindfulness and the practice of "metta," which is loving-kindness meditation. Both the practitioner and the recipient are encouraged to cultivate a sense of presence, compassion, and loving-kindness during the session.
